HE
HURT BUSINESS: OLIVER MAYER'S EARLY
WORKS [+] PLUS, edited by William
A. Nericcio, contains the full,
edited, updated scripts from Oliver
Mayer's plays YOUNG VALIANT, BLADE
TO THE HEAT and JOY OF THE DESOLATE; it
also includes interviews with Mayer,
critical analyses, photographs,
ephemera, and other textual
surprises. Mayer, an Associate Professor
at USC's School of Theatre did his
undergraduate work at Worcester College,
Oxford and Cornell University, where he
graduated--his MFA was
completed at Columbia University. Mayer,
whose literary papers are archived at
the Stanford University Libraries, was
voted one of the nation's "100 Coolest"
people by BUZZ Magazine in the late 90s,
and, having survived this brush with
fame and fortune,
his work continues to grow and evolve
positioning him as one of the more
singular post-movimiento
Chicano voices in the American Arts
scene. Hyperbole Books, an imprint of
SDSU Press, is thrilled to showcase his
early works in this handsome illustrated
edition.
